Planning for your charitable interests
If you love Canada’s wilderness, oceans, parks and protected areas, please consider leaving a legacy gift that will ensure that the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) can continue their work protecting it now and for future generations. You can do this by leaving a gift, a bequest, in your Will. By including CPAWS in your Will, you will support our mission to protect at least 50% of Canada’s wilderness. Wills offer many donors a way to make a gift which might not have been possible during, their lifetime. Your Will can reaffirm your commitment to our goals. Thank you for thinking of us!

If you already have a will, you can add a section (a “codicil”) that enables you to leave a legacy to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. A codicil is an addition to a Will that is intended to make some variation (usually slight) to a Will. It does not revoke the Will that it varies and is meant only as a codicil or variation to a Will rather than a complete new Will. Since it is part of the Will, the codicil must meet the formal requirements of a Will. Thus, a codicil must be dated and witnessed by two witnesses in your presence when you write your codicil. If it is going to be handwritten, it must be written entirely in your handwriting, dated and signed by you and your two witnesses. Your codicil could simply say “I wish to leave X to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society”. Date it and get your two witnesses to sign it. Attach it to your existing Will. For more information on codicils, please contact your lawyer or our Executive Director.
