Volunteer Research Projects Available at CPAWS-BC

There are a number of research projects that could be very useful to the CPAWS marine campaign that would make good university student projects, papers and/or directed studies topics. These projects would help CPAWS by providing background research that would feed directly into some of our marine campaigns.

Please contact Eva Riccius (eva@cpawsbc.org) if you are interested in getting more details about any/all of the following projects.

  • Research and report on case studies of international cooperation and coordination in ecosystem-based management and compile best practices and recommendations.
  • Research and report on case studies of coral conservation campaigns and strategies and compile best practices and recommendations.
  • Prepare a report recommending endangered species status under the Species at Risk Act for the Hexactinellid Sponge Reefs in the Hecate Strait.
  • Conduct a GIS gap analysis that would overlay coral and sponge distribution with existing and proposed MPAs to develop additional MPA proposals to protect these features (data provided).
  • Research and report on the marine environmental threats of increased shipping traffic with the Delta and Prince Rupert port expansions and how they will affect CPAWS marine campaign sites.
